Supper at Compton House

We are delighted to have won an AA  Dinner Award this year and  hope you enjoy eating with us during your stay. Supper is usually informal and everyone sits round one table which is always interesting and fun.

Dinner is by arrangement only, and Lisa is always happy to discuss menus. Please let us know of any special dietry requirements, and be aware that we use nuts in our kitchen.

Starters

Smoked Haddock Fishcakes
With a Hollandaise Sauce

Beetroot, Goats Cheese and Watercress Salad (V)
Sweet beetroot is lovely with goats cheese and the bitterness of watercress, with a homemade French dressing, served with crunchy bread

Roasted Garlic Mushrooms (V)
On puff pastry with a creamy herb sauce

Game Pate
Homemade rough pate made with an assortment of game, sausagemeat and brandy
Served with Homemade Spicy Pineapple Chutney

Curried Leek and Potato Soup (V)
Homemade chicken stock, pureed leeks and potatoes with a swirl of cream
Delicious with warm  French bread

Warm Red Onion Tarts  (V)
Served with baked tomatoes, torn basil and a whiz of olive oil

Main Courses

All served with seasonal vegetables and potatoes

Breast of chicken
Stuffed with goats cheese and basil , wrapped in prosciutto and baked with a creamy herb  sauce

Steak and Kidney Pie
Homemade shortcrust pastry, with plenty of steak and kidney in a rich Claret gravy
Good with buttery mashed potato

Caramelised Onion and Leek Strudel (V)
Crispy pastry strudel on a peppered white sauce

Salmon en Croute
Baked in ginger and fresh lime wrapped in Filo pastry
With a Coriander Sauce and Black and White Rice

Duckbreast
Seared , then oven baked until crispy with moist pink meat
On a homemade plum and ginger sauce
With dauphinois potatoes

Pan fried Cod
On a hot pea and bean salsa with bacon
and warm herb and ginger dressing

Puddings

Summer Pudding
Traditional pudding with summer berries and black cherries
poached in cassis, encased in bread and covered with a thick fruit sauce
decorated with fresh mint and strawberries, served with double cream

Warm Almond Tart with prunes in Armagnac
and a sweet Orange cream

Gooseberry Fool
Old fashioned pud,, with goosegogs poached in our homemade Elderflower cordial and folded into a custard made with Vanilla pods. Pretty in a glass with a sprig of mint.

Passionfruit Crème Brulees
Crunchy top, creamy bottoms with fresh passionfruit, yum!

Homemade Meringues
With cream and summer berries

Homemade Dark Chocolate Roulade
With melted white chocolate on the inside, filled with Chantilly cream
decorated with raspberries

There is always a selection of homemade Ice Creams in the freezer,
Simply made with fruit, sugar and cream
